Abstract: Most of us are familiar with the idea of "general intelligence" in individuals, but no one has systematically  examined whether a similar kind of "collective intelligence" exists for groups of people. Initially, in two studies with 192 groups, we found converging evidence of a general collective intelligence factor that explains a group's performance on a wide variety of tasks.

Abstract: Matrix factorization (MF), a technique for reducing dimensionality, is at the core of many common machine learning algorithms, e.g., collaborative filtering. MF is computationally expensive and therefore the compute time when applied to large-scale datasets is huge even when executed on high performance clusters. GPUs, with their massive number of cores and high intra-chip memory bandwidth, create new opportunities to accelerate MF.
